Plot Summary: Retta Majors finds out that her cousin is marrying her ex-boyfriend, and tries blind dating to find her perfect “match” to take with her to the wedding. She decides to reach out to Duncan Gilmore, who happens to own the boxing gym next door to her bakery. She offers Duncan parking spaces and a scone recipe in return for being her fake boyfriend for her ex’s wedding. Duncan agrees, because how hard can it be to pretend to be Retta’s boyfriend for one weekend? However, they share a kiss and some casual flirting and things start to blur the lines a little. After the wedding weekend, will they part ways? Or will their connection be too much to ignore?

Subject Headings: N/A

Romance Appeal:

Fast-Paced: many reviews stated that the book builds a romance story and connects between the characters in just a short amount of pages. There is chemistry fairly early on, and this appeals to readers when they are looking for their romance fix.

Sexy and Sweet: there is some level of “spice” in this book, which appeals to many adult readers when they are reaching for a romance novel. However, there is also a fair amount of fluff and sweetness between the two main characters that draws the story and makes the spice that much more authentic.

Character Development: Both Retta and Duncan go through some character growth throughout the novel as they discover each other and their own personal wants and needs. With any romance, as feelings grow, so do the characters. This is appealing to romance readers.

  1. Fantastic annotation! Good job on the appeals and summary. Next time try to tie at least one non-fiction readalike in.
